Roald Dahl Day – George’s Marvellous Medicine
In the morning we read the story of George’s Marvellous Medicine and talked about what the children thought would happen to Grandma when she took the medicine. They drew pictures to show their ideas.
In the afternoon we mixed our own ‘Marvellous Medicines’!
The first one was edible, the children chose from a wide range of ingredients so it contained a mixture of: vinegar, golden syrup, gravy granules, lemon juice, cola, bicarbonate of soda, Worcestershire sauce and ground mixed spice. We were all very brave and had a taste. It was disgusting! Fortunately nothing strange happened to us!
After talking about the dangers of tasting things at home that they are not supposed to, we then crumbled in some oxo cubes before adding other ingredients: shampoo, hairspray, shaving foam, ground coffee, hand cream, fairy liquid, balsamic vinegar, vegetable oil and anti-bacterial hand gel.
We stirred it up, looked at it closely and smelt it. It was very ‘foamy’ and we thought it smelt like vinegar most of the time. Click here to see the photographs.
