Year 1/2 Homework overview

In year 1 your child is expected to complete the following homework:·

  • Reading diary AF questions- daily reading. Ask focus questions from reading diary and record your child’s response.
  • Project homework- one project each half term.
  • Spellings- daily practise. Children will be tested weekly and will be moved up when they are able to demonstrate confidence in applying them in class.
  • Numeracy- Daily counting. Practise counting forwards and backwards in 1s, 2s, 5s and 10s. Start from different numbers to develop understanding.
  • Numeracy- focus questions will be sent out after an area has been taught once every two to three weeks. This will have clear instructions about when it needs handing in by.

In year 2 your child is expected to complete the following homework:

  • Reading diary AF questions- daily reading. Ask focus questions from reading diary and record their own answers. Children should be supported to record their own answers in their reading diaries as they will be fully expected to do so in key stage two.
  • Bug club comprehension- aim for three to four sessions of 15 minutes per week.
  • Spellings- daily practise. Children will be tested weekly and will be moved up when they are able to demonstrate confidence in applying them in class.
  • Project homework- one project each half term.
  • Numeracy:

2KR: Focus homework every other week based on areas covered in class. This will have clear instructions on how to complete and when to hand in.

2FC: Times tables challenge. Children will be tested every third week on a focus times table. They are expected to learn them by rote as well as recalling facts and solving missing number questions.
